About us
Latina Girls Code
We help girls and young women build real technology skills through hands-on learning, caring mentors, and support for the whole family.

STEM and digital skills for the next generation
Latina Girls Code is a community-driven initiative. We run coding and technology workshops, connect students with internship opportunities, and help families get reliable devices when resources are tight.
Our team includes educators, technologists, and parents who want every participant to feel welcome. We keep groups small when we can, pair new students with near-peer helpers, and adjust lessons for different experience levels.
What you will find in our programs:
- Project-based lessons in coding, hardware basics, and creative tools, with take-home notes when possible.
- Information for caregivers on online safety, device care, and how to practice between sessions.
- Pathways to internships and volunteer hours when students are ready for longer commitments.
- Device donation and refurbishment support so more households have a working computer at home.

Mission in plain language
Technology shapes who gets heard in school, at work, and in civic life. We focus on learners who are often underrepresented in tech spaces and on families who may not have legacy networks inside the industry.
That means patient teaching, visible role models, and honest conversations about what a tech career can look like. It also means practical help: loaner gear when we have it, clear instructions for home setup, and referrals when questions go beyond a single workshop.

Our teachers
Our mentors blend teaching experience with industry practice. They share clear expectations up front, model troubleshooting out loud, and celebrate progress when a project finally runs end to end.
Leslie Alexander
Leads weekend coding sessions and hardware activities, with clear safety steps for every exercise.
Jennifer Lee
Coordinates schedule updates with schools and helps families register for the right skill level.
Darlene Robertson
Supports internship check-ins and pairs students with partner organizations that match their interests.
Working with schools and community partners
We plan each season with a short list of shared outcomes: students finish a project they can show at home, caregivers know how to get help between sessions, and partners understand what space, Wi-Fi, and adult volunteers we need on site.
When a school or nonprofit invites us in, we align with existing calendars, avoid overlapping exam weeks when possible, and offer bilingual materials where teams request them. That coordination keeps the experience orderly for staff and welcoming for first-time participants.
